Candles often appear in religious ceremonies or important events marking great moments of one’s life. They will always be present at a wedding, a date on Valentine’s Day, a birthday, an anniversary or on New Year’s Eve. Candles are always associated with fire; it symbolizes life, hope, love, happiness, good luck, energy and desire.
Candle is just a static object (usually the main component is a rope wick and wax), it only has value and meaning when it is lighted. The symbol of the candle is not in the outward beauty be it the color, shape, or engraving on the candle. It is the flickering light of the candle which is like a promise of a beacon in the darkness which dispels fear and brings hope. The incense of the candle gives us a spiritual uplift, sets a calm atmosphere for reflection of the past and gives hope for the future. This is the true symbol of the candle.
I feel that there is an underlying similarity between the candle and that of a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who holds an executive role and managing a business. Should we be proud of this prestigious title which has social status? As Mr. James Mackintosh once said, “It is right to be contented with what we have, never with what we are.” The word “have” not only refers to material wealth, fame and social status, it should also include knowledge and experience that we gain and these must be reflected in our lives – by sharing and giving.
A real CEO shows bravery and sacrifice. He is a source of inspiration and the driving force behind the development of an organization. He is like a light which illuminates and gives hope to others to overcome obstacles and challenges. Like a burning candle in the dark, the CEO represents clarity and understanding as he leads the organization with his knowledge and wisdom into the future.
