According to Vietnam National Productivity Institute, Productivity is a measure of the effectiveness of activities that produce outputs (quantity, value added) from inputs (labor, capital, raw materials, energy, etc.), expressed by the formula:

Since 1958, the European Productivity Agency (EPA) has come up with a definition of productivity that is being used by many countries: "Productivity is a form of thinking, improving what is existing. Because there is a certainty that today's people can work better than yesterday - better tomorrow than today and no matter what the outcome, the will of improvement is important; It is the ability to always adapt the changing conditions and to constantly strive to apply new techniques and methods; and a firm belief in the progress of mankind."

In order to analyze and evaluate the productivity of enterprises, the system of productivity norms includes two groups:

1 / Factor Productivity, calculated as: Output / an input factor. Example: Productivity = Output / number of employees. This indicator is used to analyze the effect of each factor.

2 / Total Factor Productivity (TFP). This indicator reflects the results generated by the impact of the factors: quality of labor, application of advanced technology, improvement of management skills, etc.

To solve the problem of low labor productivity of Vietnamese workers compared to other ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) with 600 million people, besides understanding the concept and choosing the type of indicators It is equally important to establish the perspective of the parties in terms of material (quantitative), emotional (qualitative) and Threats (predictions) that will have a negative impact on the income of every worker and enterprise if productivity is not significantly improved.

What do employers and employees think and do to overcome the limit and barriers? It cannot be just to know the right thing or how to protect your interests or business, your country. More importantly, it is necessary to make the change in thinking.

If we only deal with problems in the tops (based on external symptoms) or wrongly diagnose the problem (the root cause) of inferior productivity, then we will not be able to improve the problems that we want to change. Harmony of the interests of the two parties in a spirit of collaboration with responsibility and high disciplines, together with the common goal to create work performance and efficiency towards work-life balance is an indispensable trend for people living in the 21st century.
